David said, "My lips are like the pen of a ready
writer." Wow! The writer's pen must then be ready at all times to write. This
is the most essential quality of every writer.
The writer's mind is a receptor constantly receiving from a
source of inspiration totally beyond him or her. I remember being woken up many
times in the night to scribble an article or a poem. I've since learnt to sleep
with pieces of papers around me. I've learnt to always leave my house with a
notebook and a pen. I call myself the "paper woman." And yes, that's
what I am. Sometimes, a call will need to remind me to eat.
"It is the writer's readiness that prepares him for great
works of art." You have to learn to give expression to your inner streams. They
are constantly flowing. It is your duty to always be ready to harness them.
Nature's muse doesn't like procrastination. Once an
inspiration hits you, hit your paper and pen, despite where you are. I've written
songs and poems right inside a church service. It hits me and I hit my paper
and pen. Technology has made it easier for writers these days. Your phone can
install Microsoft office and Word; you can install different notepads and write
as the inspiration hits you.
One thing I've learnt in my years of writing is this:
Nature, Inspiration, Muse, whatever you'd prefer to call it loves proactive
writers. “More” comes to writers who are always willing to give expression to
the inspiration stream flowing within them per time. So, if you are new to the
art and would want to be your best at it, your best nugget would be, "Let
my pen become the pen of a ready writer."
You can't imagine what this simple practice can do for you.
It will skyrocket your skill. You will produce such creative works that will
amaze you. How many of us have lost great ideas because we were not apt to note
them down?
